wilbern warrenWilbern Emerson Warren, age 77, of Hiddenite passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born August 15, 1935 to the late Lonnie Wilbern and Mary Iva Payne Warren. He was retired from Gordon Furniture and enjoyed working in the garden and tending to the yard. Wilbern was a member of Unity Christian Church in Stony Point, where he served as a deacon. Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters – Hestah King and Jessie Sigmon. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years – Claira St.Clair Warren of the home; sons – Michael Warren (Sheila) of Advance, NC and Ken Warren (Sheila) of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren – Amanda Warren of Pasadena, CA and Christopher Warren of Wilmington, NC and sister – Regina Bost of Statesville.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 1:00 pm – 2:45 pm at Unity Christian Church in Stony Point and service will begin at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Scott Hammer officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers are Boyd Glenn, Timmy Stikeleather, Christopher Warren, Curtis St.Clair, Don Mason and Everett Wike. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Unity Christian Church – Steeple Fund @ 7860 NC Hwy 90 E; Stony Point, NC 28678.

virginia williamsVirginia Grace Setzer Williams, age 85, of Taylorsville passed away at her residence on Thursday, May 23, 2013. Born June 23, 1927 to the late Clyde Henry Setzer, Sr. and Grace Walker Setzer, she was a graduate of Granite Falls High School. She had worked as a knitter at JP Stevens in Hickory and Aquatic Knits in Taylorsville. Virginia was a member of Mountain Ridge Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, canning and reading. She was an avid sports fan. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband – James Marvin Williams, Sr. and brother – “Hank” Clyde Henry Setzer, Jr. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons – James Marvin Williams, Jr. of Hickory and Gregory Haywood Williams (Hobbie) of Sumter, SC; daughter – Kaye Williams Frye (the late – Quez Frye) of Taylorsville; sisters – Margaret Starnes, Frances Martin, Betty Hayes and Joann Clark; grandchildren – Linda Bowman Murray, Jennifer Frye Hefner, Melissa Frye Barnette, Robert Henry Frye, Virginia Williams Trice, Elizabeth Williams Hall, Colby Jacob Williams and Casey James Williams; step-grandchildren – Quez Maloy Frye, Jr., Annette Frye Kiser and Beverly Renae Frye; as well as a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 26, 2013 from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Mountain Ridge Baptist Church, and a memorial service to celebrate her life will begin at 4:00 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. camila rogersCamila Adeline Dyson Rogers, age 90, of Taylorsville went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 17 at her residence. Born April 14, 1923 to the late Dewey Otto and Martha Emma Smith Dyson. She was retired from Carolina Glove where she had worked for over 25 years. Camila was a member of Three Forks Baptist Church and was a Sunday School Teacher for over 40 years. She loved to help out with the church’s VBS, Discipleship Training and being a youth leader. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking and especially loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years: Howard Rogers; infant son: Rollins Dean Rogers; brothers: Flake, Dewey, Owen, Denny and Redge Dyson; sisters: Omelia Bowman, Wilma Martin and Betty Keever; and great grand-daughters: Kayla Newton and Dallas Miller. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: Ed Rogers (Debbie) and Donnie Rogers (Vickie) both of Taylorsville; daughters: Kay Wright (Buddy) of Taylorsville, Joye Spencer (Ed) of Durham and Mary Jo Stewart (Gary) of Kings Mountain; brothers: Roger and Clyde Dyson; sisters: Naomi Butler and Jean Payne; grandchildren – Dori Maltba (Philip), Leigh Anne Newton (Steve), Julie Scroggs (Max), Ashli Elder (Matthew), Dee Stewart (Lori), Angela Gettler (Greg), Rebecca Miller (Troy), Heather Smith (Matt), David Rogers (Kate), and Meredith and Adrianne Rogers; great grand-daughters: Caroline, Hannah and Emma Maltba, Kady and Kinsey Elder, Maura Scroggs, Alyssa Newton and Alex Stewart; great grandsons: Noah, Nathan and Neil Miller, Paul Scroggs, Nicholas Stewart, Micah and Joel Gettler; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 2:00 pm – 3:45 pm at Three Forks Baptist Church and service will follow at 4:00 pm with Dr. Carson Moseley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Linda Sue Roop, 57

linda roopLinda Sue Roop, age 57, of Taylorsville went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Born September 22, 1955 in Pennsylvania to Madeline Miller Roop and the late Warren Roop. Linda was of the Baptist Faith and had worked at Sherrill Furniture as a bandsaw operator. She attended Millersville Baptist Church and enjoyed camping, swimming, working in the flowers and riding “her” motorcycle. Including her father, she is preceded in death by her brother – Douglas Warren Roop and sister – Freda McAlpin. Along with her mother, those left to cherish her memory include her fiance of 21 years, Terry Fox of the home; son – Ricky Joe Bebber, Jr. and wife Michelle of Taylorsville; brothers – Paul Roop and wife Evelyn, Larry Roop and wife Ruthie and Ronnie Roop all of Taylorsville; sisters – Joyce Reavis and husband Jimmy of Harmony, Rita Eldreth and husband Bill of Taylorsville and Martha Pruitt and husband Allen of Wilkesboro; granddaughter – Ashley Bebber of Wilkesboro and four step grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Millersville Baptist Church. Service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Millersville Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Jolly officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. jettie brantonJettie Lucille Branton, age 101, of Hiddenite passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at The Taylorsville House. She was born November 11, 1911 in Alexander County, the daughter of the late William Thomas and Mary Alice Bunton Miller. She attended Alexander County schools and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she was the oldest member. In her earlier years of life she worked for Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, NC but spent the rest of her years working with her husband on their family farm. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Branton of 44 years; three brothers – William, Pleas and John Roy Miller and four sisters – Flora M. Bunton, Dorothy M. Elliott, Mildred M. Jolly and Maggie M. Mason. She is survived by two daughters of Hiddenite – Kay B. Cook (Henry) and Norma B. Rupard (Jim); four grandchildren – Mark Cook, Stephen Cook, Allison C. Bolick and Michael Head; two sisters – Myrtle M. Ford (Leroy) and Mary Frances Millsaps, both of Statesville. She is further survived by seven nieces and four nephews; four great grandchildren – Jonathan, Jordan and Meleah Cook and Ty Bolick; along with four step great grandchildren -Megan, Michelle, Mikhayla and Nathan.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. The body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Funeral service celebrating Jettie’s life will be conducted on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 3:00 pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Stony Point with the Rev. Mark Robinette, Rev. Henry Cook and Rev. Charles Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Mark Cook, Stephen Cook, Jonathan Cook, Jordan Cook, Michael Head, Toby Bolick and Ty Bolick. Honorary Pallbearers – Dick Keyes, Tom Keyes, Harold Sprinkle, Ronnie Miller, Terry Millsaps, Newell Johnson, Bryce Privette and Clifford LeVan. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church building fund or to Hospice of Alexander County. The family would like to give special thanks to all the family and friends for their prayers along with a special thanks to the Taylorsville House staff and Hospice of Alexander County.

robin nunneryRobin Elaine Transeau Nunnery, age 51 of Lenoir passed away at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte on Thursday, May 9, 2013.  Born February 17, 1962 to the late Stonewall Jackson and Doris Elaine Bullock Transeau she had previously worked as a certified nursing assistant and spent her spare time watching the Western Channel which she absolutely loved. Besides her parents she had a daughter, Nicole Elaine Nunnery that preceded her in death.  Those remaining to cherish her memories are two sons – Travis Transeau and Darren Nunnery; two stepsons – Paul Edward Seeds Jr. and Weldon Allen Seeds; one stepdaughter – Angel Dee Hamby; her fiancé – Paul Seeds, Sr.; two brothers – Steve and Johnny Transeau; and four sisters – Emily Blankenship, Tammy Harmon, Lilly Victoria Lovette, and  Nancy Nunnery.

The family will be receiving friends at Alexander Funeral Service on Friday evening May 17, 2013 from 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm.  A Memorial Service will follow in the Chapel at 5:00 pm with the Rev. Sam Vallini officiating.

john sasserJohn David Sasser, Sr., age 70, of Taylorsville passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, May 13, 2013. Born February 18, 1943 in Wayne County, NC to the late David Nathan and Mary Adell Sasser. John was a do-it-yourself guy always staying busy outside. He was retired from the NC Department of Corrections. John and his wife rescued a Great Dane from the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue and fell so in love with the breed that they started “Triple J – Great Dane Rescue” here in the county. He was a lifelong Tar Heel fan. His greatest love was family. After every email he would write, “I love my family.” Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister – Patricia A. Smith Luckey. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 33 years – Diana Sasser of the home; sons – John David Sasser, Jr. of Rougemont, NC: Jeffrey Lee Sasser of Greensboro, NC and Jonathan Michael Sasser of Highland Village, TX; brother – Charles Sasser of Wake Forest, NC; sisters – Geri Keffer of Sandston, VA: Barbara Walters of Patrick SC: Joyce Batts of Hartsville SC and Glenda Smith of Battleboro NC; grandsons – Adam and Daniel Sasser of Greensboro, Austin Sasser of Rougemont NC and Jackson Sasser of Highland Village, TX; mother-in-law: Anne Amy Routt; brother-in-law: Richard Nelson Routt, Jr.; sister-in-law: Terri Ann Koe and a number of nieces, nephews and a great niece.

The family will receive friends on Thursday May 16, 2013 from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service and service will begin at 4:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wayne Whitley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Great Dane Alliance of the Carolinas @ 10425 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Rd; Huntersville, NC 28078 or to any animal rescue or shelter of the donor’s choice.
