Susan Leigh Donahue, 57

 Susan Leigh Donahue, age 57, of Hiddenite passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 in Palliative Care and Hospice of Catawba County. Born on June 12, 1954 to the late Clifton Paul and Alverda Charles in Clearfield Co. Pa. she was a registered nurse with Bayada Nursing. She was of the Lutheran Faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Dale Donahue. One son Casey Lee Donahue and one brother, Jim Charles.  She is survived by one son, Kelly Brain Donahue, Graterford, Pa. One daughter in law, Heather Donahue of Taylorsville. Six grandchildren, Devin, Bryce, Brianna, Patrick, Hercules and Samson Donahue. One brother, Tim Charles, two sisters, Bonnie Edwards and Betty Bowman all of Pa. She has a number of nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be held at Lebanon Baptist Church, from 11-12 noon on Monday, March 12, 2012 with funeral services at 12 noon.    Burial will be in the Dillard Family Cemetery.  Alexander Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Willard A. Patterson, 91

 Willard A. Patterson, age 91, of Statesville, passed away on Thursday, March 1st, 2012. He was born in Hiddenite, Alexander County, on January 6th, 1921, to parents Arthur Q. and Vanona Crouch Patterson. Willard served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II where he served as a Captain and flew a B24. He enjoyed attending Air Corps reunions throughout his lifetime and was a member of the Confederate Air Force.  He worked as a field representative for Dairyman, Inc.  Willard also enjoyed golf and attended Broad Street United Methodist Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings: Alma P. Goble, Juanita P. Smith, James Patterson, Quentin Washington Patterson, and Frances P. Bunton.  Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Julia Roberts Patterson of the home; three brothers: Frederick Benjamin Patterson of Dobson, Kenneth Thompson Patterson and wife Joyce of Taylorsville, and Kermit Crouch Patterson of Stony Point.  Willard also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives. Visitation will be conducted on Monday, March 5th, 2012, at Alexander Funeral Service from 6 – 8 P.M.  Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, March 6th, at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church at 4:00 P.M. Dr. Alan Patterson will officiate and will be assisted by Rev. Phillip Tillman and Rev. A C Lee Dagenhart, 93

  A C  Lee Dagenhart, age 93, Taylorsville, passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 at Wake Forest Medical Center. He was born in Alexander County on June 26, 1918 to the late John Lawrence and Addie Rae (Lippord) Dagenhart.  Mr. Dagenhart was owner operator of Dagenhart Poultry, and a member of First Baptist Church in Taylorsville.  Previously, he had served as a deacon at Macedonia Baptist Church. Mr. Dagenhart is survived by one son Jack Dagenhart of Taylorsville.  Two granddaughters; Erica Dagenhart of Taylorsville, and Courtney Dagenhart of Durham, NC as well as one great-grandson Alex Gorupic of Hickory. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Mary “Mildred” Russell Dagenhart, and one brother Roy Dagenhart. Visitation for Mr. Dagenhart will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at First Baptist Church-Taylorsville from 2:00-3:15 pm with the Funeral service beginning at 3:30 pm.  Burial will follow at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery- NC Hwy 16 South-Taylorsville.  Rev. Tim Marsh and Rev. Dolly Brown McDuffie, 85

 Dolly Brown McDuffie, age 85, of Taylorsville, passed away at the Lutheran Home of Hickory West on Tuesday, February 21st, 2012.  She was born on April 24th, 1926 in Alexander County to parents Charlie and Stella Brookshire Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Henry McDuffie; and 2 siblings: Wanda Reese and Shuford Brown.  Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Pat White & husband Dennis of Bethlehem; 2 grandsons: Rodney White & wife Crystal of Mt. View, and Chris White & wife Laurie of Lewisville, TX.  She also leaves behind 5 great-grandchildren: Courtney White & fiance’ Cody Brittain of Hildebran, Colton & Bren White of Mt. View, and George and Anna White of Lewisville, TX; 1 great-great grandchild, Lillian Brittain of Hildebran; her brother, Max “Sonny” Brown of Taylorsville; her special friend, Angie Church of Bethlehem; in addition to a host of nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be conducted on Saturday, February 25th, 2012 at Temple Hill Baptist Church from 1-2 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M. at the church where Rev. Darrell Hatchell and Rev. Virginia Ruth Picard James, 67

Virginia Ruth Picard James, age 67, of Taylorsville, passed away on Monday, February 20th, 2012 at her residence.  She was born in Pittsburg, PA on December 19th, 1944 to the late Joseph and Betty Nantz Picard.  Virginia was a member of Little River Baptist Church.  Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 44+ years Lyndon James of the home; 2 sons: Marcus Lynn James & wife Janet of Stony Point, and Lyndon James Jr. & wife Barbara of Bethlehem; also 3 grandsons: Mason. Cooper, & Samuel James – all of Bethlehem; 1 step-grandson, Tyler Stafford; 2 siblings: Dorothy Kirwin, and Jimmy Picard – both of Pittsburg, PA, in addition to a host of nieces and nephews.  No formal services are planned.  Condolences may be left for the family at http://www.alexfuneralservice.com.  Alexander Funeral & Cremation Service has been entrusted.

Jewel Bowman Williams, 66

  Jewel Bowman Williams, age 66, of Bethlehem, passed away on Thursday, February 16th, 2012 at her residence.  She was born on September 3rd, 1945 in Catawba County to parents Vernon Maynard Bowman Sr. and Edith Herman Bowman.  She was a faithful Christian who was a lifelong member of Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She also directed the children’s choir and the Christmas programs. Jewel was also a long time employee of Hancock & Moore. She enjoyed playing golf and also actively coached little league Baseball and Softball.  Jewel loved attending Bible study classes and Prayer Group.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Fox.  Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Charles Bryson Williams Sr. of the home; 4 children: Charles “Bryson” Williams Jr. & wife Laura of Ft. Mill, SC, Danny Bowman Williams & wife Mary of Bethlehem, Sandra Williams Morrisey & husband Tom of New York, NY, and Patrick Wayne Williams “Goober” of Taylorsville; 2 sisters: Wanda Johnston and Dorothy Parker; and 1 brother, Vernon Bowman. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Charles Bryson Williams III “Trey”, Tanner Alexander Williams, David Michael Meskin, Margaret Sloan Williams “Meg”, Mary “Brooke” Williams, Jordan Jewel Morrisey, and Faith Frances Morrisey. Visitation will be conducted on Saturday, February 18th, 2012 from 4-6 PM at Alexander Funeral Service. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 19th, 2012 at Mt. Rev. Bill Uriah Dyson, 79

 Rev. Billy Uriah Dyson, age 79, of Taylorsville, passed away on February 7th, 2012 at his residence.  He was born on July 10th, 1932 in Alexander county to parents Ophus Cleophus and Julie Barnes Dyson.  He was a Baptist Pastor for 45 years, during which time he pastored Fairview Baptist in Hiddenite, Calvary Baptist in Lenoir, and was interim pastor at both Lebanon Baptist in Taylorsville and Mathis Chapel in Catawba County.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sons: Randy and Mark Dyson; 1 brother, Rev. Devon Dyson; and 6 sisters: Ethel Fox, Reba Price, Ruby Chapman, Ruth Fox, Sybil Mitchell, and Hilda Chapman.  Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Betty B. Dyson of the home; 2 sons: Tim Dyson & wife Rita of Taylorsville, and Terry Dyson of Daytona Beach, FL; 3 brothers: Graydon, Maynard, and Dwight Dyson – all of Taylorsville; and 1 sister, Bobby Jean Miller – also of Taylorsville.  He also leaves behind 3 grandchildren: Dr. Matt Dyson & wife Ashley of Hickory, Shay Jackson & husband Zol of High Point, and Chris Dyson of Daytona Beach, FL; 4 great-grandchildren: Eric & Emory Jackson of High Point, Hank & June Dyson of Hickory; in addition to a host of nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be conducted on Thursday, February 9th, at Liledoun Baptist Church from 5-8:30 P.M.  Funeral service Friday, February 10th at Liledoun at 2:00 P.M. Rev. James Lockee, Rev. Phil Chapman, Rev. Jamie Steele, and Rev. Roger Wilson Johnson, 84

 Roger Wilson Johnson, our loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, age 84, of Taylorsville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 7th, 2012.  He was born on September 5th, 1927 in Alexander county to parents Willie and Ida Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Opal H. Johnson; and 2 sons: Keith and Danny Johnson; as well as a step-grandson, Ray Bowles. He is also preceded in death by 4 siblings: Vaughn Johnson, Alba Pearson, Hoye Johnson, and Dewhitt Johnson.  Roger spent many years raising his children and sharing his love of farming with mules and making furniture.  Those left to cherish his memory are 9 children: Jerry Hubbard and wife Joyce, Dale Johnson and wife Faye, Dwain Johnson and wife Barbara – all of Taylorsville, Ann and Dennis Hall of Granite Falls, Douglas Johnson and wife Lori of Hiddenite, Carol Bingman and husband Bruce, Kathy Shoemaker and husband Ronnie – all of Statesville, and Steve and Sam Johnson of the home.  Also left to cherish his memory are 4 siblings: Mary Lou Cashett of High Point, Nellie Gregory of Statesville, Ray Johnson and wife Margaret of Taylorsville, and Arnold Johnson and wife Carolyn of Hiddenite; 2 sisters-in-law: Betty Johnson of Hildebran and Mary Johnson of Taylorsville; 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.  Visitation on Thursday, February 9th, 2012 at Alexander Funeral Service from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.  Service Friday, February 10th, 2012 at Bethel Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. where Rev. Bill Smith and Rev. Robert Barnette will officiate.  The body will lie in state at the church half an hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Wade “Lynn” Brown, 75

 Wade Lynn Brown, age 75, of Taylorsville, passed away on Sunday, February 5th, 2012 at his residence following a lingering illness. He was born on October 17th, 1936, to the late Jessie Lynn and Ola Smith Brown in Alexander County. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Army.  Wade was retired from Champion/Waldorf Corp in Taylorsville where he served as their corporation pilot. Known as “Lynn” to many of his school mates, he was well known as a pilot in the Taylorville Region, and was an active member of DAV Post 84. He enjoyed NASCAR and was a member of the Taylorsville Flying Club.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Wilkerson Brown; one brother, Samuel Brown; and an infant sister.  Wade is survived by one son, Jeffrey Lynn Brown and wife Joan; one daughter, Sonya Dawn Echerd and husband James; – all of Taylorsville. He has one sister, Rita Brown Mash and husband Carl of Taylorsville;  3 grandchildren: Brandon Echerd, Heather Brown, and Katherine Echerd Stroud and husband Samuel; and one unborn great-grandson. There are two-step granddaughters: Sheree Fox and husband Jonathan, and Jennifer Smart and husband Adam; 5 step-great-grandchildren: Kaslyn McMann, Cameron Smart, Lilly Smart, Christian Fox, Novia Fox; and one sister-in-law, Barbara Brown. Wade had a very special friend and companion, Casino Bentley. There are a number of nieces and nephews, along with a host of close friends and flying buddies.  Visitation will be Thursday, February 9th, at Macedonia Baptist Church on 16 South, from noon – 2:00 p.m.  with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Dan Spears and Rev. Gary Jennings will officiate. Burial will follow in the Victory Baptist Church Cemetery  in Stony Point with Rev. Mark Robinette and Rev. Mitchell Rash.  DAV Post 84 will render military honors at the graveside.  Memorials may be sent to the Shriners Children’s Hospital @ 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL. 33607. Ralph Eugene “Gene” Lail, 73

 Ralph Eugene “Gene” Lail, age 73, of the Bethlehem Community, passed away unexpectedly, Sat. Feb. 4, 2012, in Frye Regional Medical Center. Born, Mar. 13, 1938, to the late Gaither Lee and Etta Louise Harrison Lail, he was a member Bethlehem {Isaac Creek} Church of God. He was employed by Hancock and Moore and was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed politics and working on cars.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, a brother Donald L. Lail, a grand-daughter Cameo J. Teague, two great-grandsons, Ty King and Michael Phillips and two Sisters, Linda and Shelia Lail. He is survived by four children: Shelia Lail, Yvonne L. Craig, Bryant E. Lail, and wife, Teresa,   Ralph E. Lail, Jr. and wife Cindy, all of Taylorsville. He has a granddaughter, who was like a daughter, Kailea M. Lail. There are thirteen grand-children, and 10 great-grandchildren. He has four brothers, Jimmy Lail and wife Debbie of Taylorsville, Gary Lail and wife Brenda of Hickory, Larry Lail of Taylorsville, and Gwyn Lail and wife Teresa of MO. Four sisters survive, Dorothy Fox and husband George of Claremont, Bessie Holland, of Taylorsville, Doris Sebastian, of Hickory, and Cindy Kelsoe  and husband George of Taylorsville.  Gene has a sister-in-law, Linda Lail of Hickory. Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, from 6-8:30 p.m. at Mt. Wesley Wesleyan Church, in Hiddenite, with services on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Scott Atkins will officiate. The body will lie in state at the church thirty minutes prior to the service. Pall-bearers will be Eddie Phillips Jr., Jimmy Craig, Adam Houston, Rodney Barnes, “Big” Eddie Phillips, Sr., and David Barnes. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Alexander Funeral and Cremation service in Taylorsville.
