Johnny Webster Hollar, 74

Johnny Webster Hollar, age 74, of Taylorsville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, in Frye Regional Med. Ctr. Born in Alexander County to the late Jay Hugh and Katie Moretz Hollar, on April 12, 1936, he was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Mr. Hollar owned and operated Hollar Transportation Services Inc. fulfilling a career in the transportation industry. Being a thirty three degree mason, he belonged to Lodge 343 of Hickory.  He is survived by his wife, Rachel May Hollar of the home. One son, Joe Hollar and wife Donna Richie Hollar of Atlanta, Ga. Three grandsons: Matthew, and Andrew Hollar of Durham and John Hollar of Atlanta. He has four brothers: Blayne, Wyndell, Michael, and Warren Hollar all of Taylorsville. He has a host of nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be held Tues. Mar. 1, 2011, at Antioch Baptist Church, from 3-4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Mark Morris will officiate.  Matthew, Andrew, John, Hugh, Mark, Brian, David, Ed, Eric, and Jacob Hollar will serve as pallbearers. Johnny’s brothers will serve as honorary pallbearers. Maurice Feuer, 90

Maurice Feuer, age 90, of  Taylorsville, passed away in Valley Nursing Ctr. on Friday evening, Feb. 25, 2011. Born in New York, New York, on Feb. 18, 1921, to the late Isaac and Molly Palter Feuer, he was a retired teacher from the New York City Board of Education. A science teacher, he also assumed responsibility for home instruction for students in their home when unable to attend school normally. He was a veteran of the US Army, WW II.  He was of the  Jewish faith. He will be remembered for his outgoing personality and quick wit. In addition to his parents he was preceded by one son Kenneth Feuer and ten siblings. He is survived by one son David Feuer and wife Vionette of Taylorsville, as well as one brother, Henry Feuer,, of Hartford Conn. and two sisters: Ester Cribbs, of Miami, Fla. and Rhea Fleicher of Brooklyn, New York.  No formal services are planned at this time and inurnment will be with the family.   Alexnder Funeral andCremation Service is serving the Feuer family.

Randy Blake Goodman, 62

Randy Blake Goodman, age 62, of Taylorsville, passed away on Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011 at his home.  He was born in Iredell County on February 5th, 1949 to parents James Elmer & Nora Katherine Carson Goodman.  He was of the Baptist faith.  He was employed as a millwright for 20 years under Lloyd W. Aubrey Company.  He was an avid Harley Davidson Motorcycle fan.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Mills.  Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Randy Brian Goodman & wife Robin of Taylorsville; 3 daughters: Hope Goodman Lail & husband Jackson – also of Taylorsville; Brandy Goodman of Denver, CO; and Amber Goodman of Mechanicville, Iowa.  He is also survived by 3 sisters: Nancy Pearson & husband Raleigh of Taylorsville; Gene Morrow of Mooresville; & Katherine Gurley of Mooresville; also 1 brother: Donald Mills of Charlotte; 6 grandsons, and a host of nieces and nephews.  No formal services are planned.  Memorials may be made to Hospice & Home Care of Alexander County @ 50 Lucy Echerd Lane. Kenneth Edwin Cox Jr., 60

Kenneth Edwin Cox Jr., age 60, of Hiddenite, passed away on Wed. Feb. 23, at his residence. Born March 15, 1950 in Fayette County W.Va., to Kenneth Edwin Cox Sr. and Gerry Ann Payne Cox, he grew up in Summerly, W.Va. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam Era. Kenneth was an employee of Shur Tape in Stony Point. He attended Beulah Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his mother. In addition to his father, he is survived by two sons: Kenneth William Cox & Hannah Kerley, and Kyle Michael Cox and wife, Heather, also with the mother of his children Rochelle Wall Cox, all of Hiddenite. Kenneth  will be remembered by three grandchildren: Victoria, Allyson, and Natalie Cox, all of Taylorsville,  along with Lexi Johnson, of Hiddenite. He has one brother, Richard “Rick” Cox and wife, Freda of Wilkesboro. He has one niece Tracy Cox Minton and two nephews, Ricky and David Cox, all of Wilkesboro. Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, from 1-2:30 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Service with funeral services at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Hiddenite Cemetery. Rev. Bill Orren and Rev. Rick Cox, will officiate.Hiddenite VFW Post 10,000 and Taylorsville Post 5466 will provide military rites at the grave.  Alexander Funeral and Cremation Service is serving the Cox family.

Jack Kent Mosley, 62

Jack Kent Mosley, age 62 of Taylorsville passed away Monday, February 21 at his residence.  He was born in Oakland City, IN to the late Jack L. Mosley and to Bertha Lee Nelson Mosley on March 16th, 1948. He was a Respiratory Therapist for PSA HealthCare out of Charlotte NC for over 20 years.  He attended Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church in Bethlehem.  He loved all sports, but he especially enjoyed NASCAR, antique cars, and was an avid golfer. Besides his father, he is preceded in death by one infant sister Jackie Lee Mosley. He is survived by his mother; two daughters Katie Wilfong and husband, Erick of Bethlehem, and Megan Mosley of Durham; the mother of his children Margo Mosley of Bethlehem; one grandson Justin Mosley of Bethlehem.  One brother, Nelson Mosley of Bettendorf, Iowa; and one niece Tracy Prosser & husband David, and children Nathan, & Sydney of Springfield, IL.  Funeral Services for Mr. Mosley will be Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 11:00 am at Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mike Stone officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley at 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC  28658 or Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church at 9379 NC Hwy 127, Hickory, NC  28601.  Alexander funeral Service in Taylorsville has been entrusted with arrangements.

Pearl Allen Wyatt, 81

 Pearl Allen Wyatt, age 81, passed away on Sunday, February 20th, 2011 at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville.  She was born on April 4th, 1929 to parents Rev. Clarence and Eupha Matheson Allen in Alexander County.  She served as a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Wyatt; granddaughter, Leslie Bumgarner; sister, Christine Allen Brotherton; & 2 brothers: Earl and Atwell Allen. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Rowe (Roxie) Bumgarner; and her grandson Andy Bumgarner and wife, Tami of Bethlehem.  Also surviving is one brother, Robert Allen and wife, Katherine of Hiddenite, NC along with several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Monday, February 21st, from 6 * 7:30 pm at Alexander Funeral Service.  Graveside Services will be on Tuesday, February 22, 4:00 pm at Mt Nebo Baptist Church in Hiddenite with Rev. Brian Eades presiding. Andy & Larry Bumgarner, Billy, James Brian, Jacob, & Scotty Abernathy will serve as pallbearers. Alexander Funeral Service has been entrusted with arrangements.

Jacob Elliott Frye, 19

Jacob Elliott “Jake” Frye, age 19, of Taylorsville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011. Born Sept. 29, 1991, to Eric and Dana Jolly Frye in Catawba county, he was a graduate of Alexander Central High School, Class of 2009, where he played Varsity Football. He was a member of the Appalachian Coal Rollers and Pit Bull Riders  Motorcycle Club. Jake was a member of Friendship Lutheran Church. He was employed with his father at Frye Grading in Bethlehem. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Harold Frye. In addition to his parents he is survived by one brother, Mason Frye of the home as well as, his grandparents, LouAnn Frye, and Fred and Mary Lee Jolly, all of Taylorsville. He has three aunts, Julia Rhyne and husband Dennis, Karen Loudermelk and husband Steve, all of Taylorsville, and Roxanne Norton and husband, Alan of Hiddenite. Left to remember Jake are his cousins, Micaela, Cassey, Andrea, Timmy, Will, Briana, Don, Terry, Olivia, Chesney, Gemma, Mandy and Evie.  Missing Jake is man’s best friend, his pit bull, “Dozer”. The body will lie in state in the chapel of Friendship Lutheran Church, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011,  with funeral services at 4:00 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Todd Rauscher and Rev. Phil Thorsen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the burial in the church family life center. Memorials may be made to the Friendship Lutheran Church, 5300 Church Rd. Taylorsville, NC, 28681.   Alexander Funeral and Cremation Service in Taylorsville is serving the Frye family.
