Viven Ruth Rader, 77

Viven Ruth Rader, age 77 of Taylorsville went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice.  She was born April 3, 1937 in Alexander County to the late Henry William and Helen Bowman Goodnight who died shortly after Viven’s birth.  She was lovingly raised by Pansy Goodnight.  As a member of First Baptist Church, Taylorsville, she helped in the nursery and taught Vacation Bible School.  Viven was also a member of the Alexander County Republican Women.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years George Calvin Rader, one sister, Kathy Goodnight and two grandsons, Van William Powell and Charles Rader Powell.

Those remaining to cherish her memories are a daughter – Tammy Powell and husband Van of Raleigh; one son – Brent Rader and wife Donna of Taylorsville.  Her grandchildren include Tom Powell and wife Hannah of Advance; Anna Powell of Raleigh, Megan Rader and Mason Rader of Taylorsville.  Other survivors include  a sister – Sara Frazier and husband Arnold of Apex; two brothers – Paul Goodnight and wife Sally of Taylorsville, and Fred Goodnight and wife Tina of Trussville, AL; two aunts – Rosada Lackey and husband Kendall of Charlotte, and Mabel Chapman of Charlotte; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation for Mrs. Rader will be held Friday, November 28, 2014 at First Baptist Church – Taylorsville from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm with the funeral service to begin at 3:00 pm.  Rev. Dan Redding Jr. will be officiating.  Burial will follow in the  Taylorsville City Cemetery.

Carl Linden Prichard, age 54, of Hiddenite, passed away Fri. Nov. 21, 2014. Born to the late Carl Linden and MaryEdith Kerley Prichard, on July 1, 1960, in Alexander County, he was of the Baptist faith. He was employed in the furniture industry, with Thomasville and Lewittes Furniture Companies. He was a Nascar Fan, pulling for Mark Martin, and was always a lover of a good joke. He will be sorely missed by “man’s best friend”, Biscuit.  In addition to his parents he was preceded by nine siblings.  He is survived by his wife, Lois Anne Prichard of the home. One stepson, Travis Raby and wife Denise of Chicopee, Mass., one stepdaughter, Ronda Mitchell, of Morganton. Carl has five step grandchildren. He will be remembered by one brother and three sisters, Parks Prichard and wife Cindy of Taylorsville, Nora Johnson and husband Jerry of Statesville, and Lucy Combs of Wilkesboro, and Rose Jones, of Black Mountain. He has a host of nephews and nieces.  He had a best friend, Kevin Denee and wife Liz and his god children Linden and Laila Denee, all of Hiddenite.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 from 3-3:45 p.m. at Millersville Baptist Church, with Memorial services at 4 p.m. The Rev. Betty Sue Rector, 67

Betty Sue Rector, age 67, of Taylorsville, passed away in Brian Center Viewmont, on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014. Born on Feb. 19, 1947, to the late L.C. Icenhour and Lucille Irene Hafer Icenhour, who survives, she was a life long member of Friendship Lutheran Church. She was employed in the furniture industry with Thomasville, Bruards, and Hancock and Moore Furniture Companies. She loved to dance, go to the beach and yard sales and was a devoted mom and grandmother. She will be remember as “never failing to go to work”. In addition to her father she was preceded by a sister, Linda Reitzel. Surviving in addition to her mother, are three children: Rick Rector and wife Monica of Hickory, Tina Armstrong, Taylorsville, and Eric Rector and wife, Michelle, of Conover. Grandchildren, Ryan, Ashlyn, Tori, Dekota and Ethan Rector and great grandchildren: Bailyn and Cambree Rector. Betty has two sisters who survive, Kay Smith and husband John and Marcella Icenhour, both of Taylorsville. She has several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 24, from 6-8 p.m. at Friendship Lutheran Church, with funeral services on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Carol Yeager, and Rev. Gregory Yeager, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials  may be made to the Friendship Lutheran Church family life center, 5300 Church Road, Taylorsville, NC, 28681.

don sparks Millard Don Lee Sparks, age 83 of Taylorsville, passed away on November 20, 2014 at Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, NC. Born to the late Don Lee Sparks and Hessie Sparks Joines on July 5, 1931, he was a Korean War veteran and served honorably in the Air Force as a radio operator. His career in textiles took him to many countries in the world. Don was a member of Three Forks Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Roxie Ann McCloud Sparks and siblings;  Jack Sparks and Jim Sparks of Wilkesboro. Don is survived by a son, Donald Lee Sparks and wife Faye of Dallas TX, and a daughter, Terri Leigh Arrington, and husband Bruce of Saluda, NC  granddaughters, Christine Sparks, Andrea Sparks, and Candace Arrington, and  grandsons Lee, and Shane Arrington. He is also survived by his brothers Bill Sparks of Wilkesboro and Ronnie Joines and Randy Joines of Moravian Falls as well as his special companion Sue Childers and her family of Taylorsville. Funeral Service will be held Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Three Forks Baptist Church at 2:00 with the Dr. Carson E Moseley, Senior Pastor officiating. The body will lie in state 1 hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery, where DAV Chapter 84 and Chapter 6 will be providing military rights. A reception will be held immediately following the service. Marsha Ann Horton, 49

Marsha Ann Horton, 49 formerly of Wilkes, NC, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 15, 2014.  She was born August 10, 1965 in Wilkes, to the late James Avery and Martha Louise Hendren Billings.  She loved spending time with her online friends, listening to music, reading and of course shopping.  In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a daughter; Monica Ann Horton, brother; James Richard Billings, and niece; Megan Grace Eller.

Those left to cherish her memory is her sister; Melissa Billings Eller and husband Gary Thomas Eller of Hickory, nephew; Grayson Eller, niece; Marissa Eller both of Hickory.

A visitation will be held for Marsha, Sunday, November 23, 2014 from 2pm-3pm at Bethany Baptist Church on Brushy Mountain Road in Wilkesboro, NC.  A memorial service will follow at 3pm at the church.  Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to The Hickory Soup Kitchen, PO Box 1431, Hickory, NC 28603.

David Walker, 43

David Walker

David Franklin Walker, age 43, passed away unexpectedly at his residence, Sunday Nov. 16, 2014 following a lengthy  bout with heart problems. Born Aug. 20, 1971, to James Wayne and Catherine Morrison Walker, he was a professional truck driver. David had attended Johnston Community College as well as Catawba Valley Community College. He was a member of Rocky Springs United Methodist Church where he served as clerk of the finance committee. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Franklin and Margaret Morrison and Elbert and Emily Walker.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Chris Walker and wife Alison of Statesville. David leaves a nephew and niece, Alex and Madeline Walker, both of Statesville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Wed, Nov. 19, 2014,  at Rocky Springs United Meth. Ch., with the Rev. Bob Herron officiating.  The body will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Rocky Springs Community building. Pallbearers will be Jeffey Canaday, Michael Danner, Doug Dessecker, Joe Sturgill, Scott and Brian Mitchell. Due to the extreme cold weather burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to the building fund of Rocky Springs UMC, 1321 York Institute Rd., Hiddenite, NC 28636.

Clara Louise Smith, 82

Clara Louise Smith, age 82, of Stony Point, passed away on November 16, 2014 at her residence. Born to the late Clifton Dewitt and Lilian Barlowe Elder, on June 16, 1932 she was a Research Librarian for R.J. Reynolds Research Department for thirty years. She was a member of Carson’s Chapel United Methodist Church and was an avid crossword fan, loved camping and played in putt-putt tournaments.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Smith and two siblings; Harold Elder and Brenda Warren.

Louise is survived by one sister, Lara Neal Rector and husband E.D. of Stony Point, and one sister in law, Bobby Elder of Taylorsville, and one brother in law, Kenneth Warren of Hiddenite. She has a number of nieces and nephews. Woman’s best friend Toby will miss her master.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014, from 12:30 pm -1:30 pm at Alexander Funeral Service and memorial services will be held at 1:30 pm in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Larry Scott officiating. Inurnment will be with the family.

Dallas Clark Dolle, 73

Dallas Dolle

Dallas Clark Dolle, 73, passed away Friday, November 14, 2014 in Winston-Salem N.C. at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital while in surgery.  He was the son of Richard and Atha Dolle.  He was born in Dayton, Ohio on April 20, 1941.  He grew up in Apex, NC, graduated from Apex High School, attended Wingate College and graduated from Gardner Webb University.  Dallas joined the NC National Guard in 1964, where he served as a medic.  Later he worked as a paramedic and retired as a 911 operator for Alexander County.  He was a dedicated volunteer in his local community of Taylorsville, NC, and his church family at Mt. Herman Baptist Church.

Dallas is survived by one son; Dallas Keith and wife Missy of Fort Mill, SC and four granddaughters; Kimberly Sue and husband Brent Hollingsworth of Savannah, GA; Lisa Victoria, Dallas Megan and Jessica Noel, all of Fort Mill, SC.  Dallas has one sister; Jan Farmer of Lynchburg, VA.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, November 21, 2014, at Mt. Herman Baptist Church at 2:30 pm.  Memorials may be made to Mt. Herman Baptist Church, 3280 U.S. Hwy. 64, Taylorsville, NC, 28681.

Gary Maynard Teague, 73

Gary Maynard Teague, age 73, of Taylorsville, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014  at Catawba Hospice in Newton. Born January 27, 1941 to the late Joseph Foy and Berna Thompson Teague in Alexander County, he was a retired furniture supervisor for Sherrill Furniture after forty-six and one half years. He was a member of Taylorsville Church of God, and was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved gardening.

In addition to his parents he was preceded by three nephews – David, Tony and William “Willie” Shook and a special cousin and friend, Grady Walker, along with a step brother, Bruce Tripplet.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Ann Shook Teague of the home. One daughter – Robin Teague LaFon, and husband Robert, of Taylorville. One sister, Ann Teague Turner and husband Eddy of Granite Falls. One step brother, Bill Triplet and wife Sherry of Lenoir, along with many cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 17, 2014 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service, with funeral services on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the Taylorsville Church of God at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Albertino officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy 16 South.

Memorials may be made to the Taylorsville Church of God Building Fund, 486 E. Main Ave. Taylorsville, NC 28681 or to the hospice of the donor’s choice.

Kenneth Darrell Taylor, 54

 Kenneth Darrell Taylor, age 54, of Taylorsville NC, passed away on November 13, 2014, in Catawba Regional Medical Center. Born on May 5, 1960 in California to the late Kenneth E. and Sharon M. Taylor.

He was a maintenance engineer.

He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth E. and Sharon M. Taylor and grandson James A. Lynch.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Christine Mary Taylor, son Joshua Eugene Taylor and wife Monique of Marion, NC, a daughter, Heather Michelle Taylor Lynch and husband Jay Lynch, of Charlotte NC. Kenneth has one brother and two sisters; Michael Grey Taylor of Richmond, VA., Marie Levesque of Maine, and Deborah Ballard, of Arizona. Five grandchildren are left to cherish his memory, Lily Ariel, Gabriel, Kenneth Taylor, Dakota Lee Norton, Stephanie S. Betke and Joshua J. Betke.

Man’s best friend, Chloe will miss her master.

Ken was a wonderful and loving husband, Father, and Pawpaw. He found great fulfillment in taking care of his family and absolutely adored his grandchildren and his beloved dog, Chloe.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2014 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Service for Mr. Taylor, and  inurnment will be with the family.
