David Whaley Sr., 78

thumbnailDavid Wayne Whaley Sr. age 78, of Taylorsville passed away on September 25, 2017. He was born in Sevier County, Tennessee to the late David Crockett and Bessie Newman Whaley on August 30, 1939.

David was of the Baptist Faith and was saved at the age of 12. He was kind hearted and was always willing to help anyone, family was everything to him. In his spare time he enjoyed watching Nascar and Dale Earnhardt was his all time favorite driver. Water was another one of his favorite pass times when he wasn’t behind the wheel of his truck. His favorite thing to say was “Better to have a dime and not need it instead of needing it and not having it!”

Along with his parents David is preceded in death by three sisters, twelve brothers, and one infant grandchild.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; Shirley Ann Oswalt Whaley, a son; David Wayne Whaley Jr. and wife Debbie, daughters; Cindy Brackett and husband Jason, Brenda Dagenhart and husband Aubrey, grandchildren; Amanda Wike, Alicia Nicholas, Courtney Goebel, Brittany Kerley, Lewis Whaley, and Savannah Brackett, three great grandchildren; Rileigh Nicholas, Hayven Bennett, and Maverick Goebel, sister; Peggy Dowell of Nashville, Tennessee, with a host of nieces and nephews.

A private family memorial service will be held on a later date. Inurnment will be kept with the family.

Alice Faye Barber, 62

Alice Faye Gregory Barber, age 62, of Taylorsville passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at her residence. She was born on May 13, 1955 to the late Hosey Eugene and Mary Sue Gregory in Alexander County. She was a homemaker. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by a sister; May Francis Brinkley, and brothers; Clifford, Tommy, and Clarence Gregory.

Those left to cherish her memory are one brother; Michael Gregory of Kannapolis, and three sisters; Peggy Dim and Mary Gregory of Statesville, and Rose Gregory of Mooresville, along with a number of nieces and nephews.

There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. Inurnment will be kept with the family.

Ruby Ellen Hammond, 72

Ruby Ellen Eldreth Hammond, age 72 of Taylorsville passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at her residence. She was born to the late Vern and Lily Elliott Eldreth in Cecil County, Maryland on March 19, 1945. She worked for Wal-Mart as a clerk and had also worked with her late husband as owner and operator of their own truck. Along with her father and mother she is preceded in death by her husband; Vance Eartle Hammond.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter; Debbie Seagraves of the home; son: Timothy Tobin; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

There are no formal funeral arrangements at this time. Inurnment will be kept with the family.

Derrick PetersonDerrick “Shaine” Peterson, age 42, of Conover went to his heavenly home on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at his residence. He was born on February 7, 1975, the son of Randy Darrell Peterson and the late Carmen Dority Peterson. Shaine was self-employed in the construction business and was of the Baptist faith. He loved woodwork, singing and going hunting and fishing.

Along with his father, those left to cherish his memory include his wife of ten years: Carmon Peterson; step-daughters: Laura Vance & Elizabeth Warren; brothers: Darren & Brent Peterson; sister: Dia Davidson; along with a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service and the funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Darren Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at Hiddenite Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Beau & Dawson Davidson and Sawyer, Dillon, Shaeden, Lathan, & Caleb Peterson.

Terry Lee Bowman, 69

Terry Bowman.jpgTerry Lee Bowman, age 69, of Taylorsville went to his heavenly home on Sunday, September 24, 2017 after a courageous two year battle with cancer, but in the end won his final victory through his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born in Wilkes County on November 20, 1947, the son of the late Escar Elmore and Eunice Bumgarner Bowman. Terry honorably served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. He was retired from Bellsouth – ATT after 37 years as a Engineer, where he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Terry was a very active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he taught the 1st and 2nd grade Sunday School Class for 35 plus years and was part of the Building Committee. Through the Alexander County Baptist Association, he served in the Handiman Ministry and was part of the Baptist Men Disaster Relief in the Association. Terry loved listening to Southern Gospel Music. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, & friend and will greatly be missed but forever in our hearts.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 43 years: Revonda Kay Hall Bowman, of the home; sons: Jeffrey Scott Schronce, of Andrews, SC & Clint Lee Bowman (Staci Cooke), of Denver, NC; daughter: Kimberley Schronce Corriher (Robert Eric), of Bethlehem; granddaughters: Shelby Dian Corriher, of Bethlehem & McKenzie Lynn Bowman, of Hiddenite; sisters: Joy Bowman Brown (Ronnie C.), of Taylorsville & Jill Bowman Fox (Bud), of Hiddenite; along with a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm at Bethlehem Baptist Church and the service will follow at 3:30 pm with the Dr. Wayne Caviness officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the DAV Ch. 84, of Taylorsville and Ch. 6 of Husdon. Ray Wilson Sipe, 94

Ray Sipe - Copy (2)Ray Wilson Sipe, age 94, of Taylorsville went to his heavenly home on Friday, September 22, 2017 at his residence, with his family by his side. He was born on November 1, 1922, the son of the late Lawrence and Carsie Sipe in Taylorsville. Ray loved the Lord and was a faithful member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. He loved his church family and had served many terms on the Church Council, and many years served as Communion Custodian and Church Treasurer. Ray honorably served our country in the US Army during WWII, and was awarded a purple heart. He was also a founding member, along with his brothers, of Sipe Lumber Company. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers: Earl Sipe (Coy) and Carl Sipe (Dessie); three sisters: Pearl Sipe, Ida Sipe Jolly (David-“Scat”), and Marie Sipe Teague (Robert); granddaughter: Kayla Anne Hefner; and daughter-in-law: Janet Lail Sipe.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 72 years, Marie Little Sipe; children: Vickie Sipe Hefner (Hal); Jan Sipe Jolly (Gail), and Tony Ray Sipe (Stacy); grandchildren: Kim Hefner Ferguson (Scott), Chad Hefner and special friend Kelly Hall, Will Sipe (Mikhayla), and Emily Sipe; step-grandchildren: Matthew Carrigan and Zoe Helton; great-grandchildren: Ryan Rector (Kelly), Phillip Ferguson, Landon Ferguson (Meredith), Garrett Ferguson, Hayden Hefner, Bentley Sipe and special friend Kaylee Hall; great-great granddaughters (5 generations); Bailyn Rector, Cambree Rector, and due in January 2018, Hallie Ferguson; thirty-one nieces and nephews, plus a large number of great and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.

 

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. Service will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 3:00 pm at St. Luke Lutheran Church with the Pastor Andrew Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the DAV Ch. 84, of Taylorsville and Ch. 6, of Hudson. Memorials may be sent to St. Luke Lutheran Church at 1364 Church Rd; Taylorsville, NC 28681 and to Catawba Regional Hospice at 3975 Robinson Rd; Newton, NC 28658.

Rometta Faline Morgan Davis, age 45 of Statesville passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017. She was born on Wednesday, May 10, 1972 to Roy Rubin Daniel Morgan Sr. and the late Gertrude Kammauff Morgan in Elizabethton, Tennessee.

Along with her mother she is proceeded in death by two brothers; Roy Kenneth Morgan and Benny James Morgan.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 24 years; John Davis, her father; Roy Rubin Daniel Morgan Sr., son; Zachary Davis, brother; Roy Morgan Jr. and two sisters; Pamela DeHaven Benson and Margaret Morlan.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Alexander Funeral Service from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gary Jennings officiating. Burial will take place at Hiddenite Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers all donations may be made to Palliative Care of Statesville, 2347 Simonton Rd. Statesville, NC 28625.

Patricia Turcott, 72

Patricia TurcottPatricia Turcott, 72, of Stony Point, NC, formally of Watertown, NY passed away surrounded by her loved ones on September 14, 2017. Her smile, laugh, and loving heart will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Born July 1, 1945 to Charles and Florence Belcher, she married the love of her life, Wendell Turcott on December 28, 1981. Through their life’s journey, side by side, they succeeded in laying a foundation of love, family and various business ventures. The most recent being, JW Home Sales. Patricia was happiest spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family was everything to her.

Those left to cherish her memories include her loving husband, Wendell, her daughters, Tina Hanas, Jessica Compton, Penny Lamaine, April Johnson and Debbie Turcott. Daughter-in-law, Connie Layne. Her brothers Richard Belcher and James Belcher. Her sister Linda Mandigo and her grandchildren, Michael Lane, Shannon Lee, Justin Whatley, Tiffinee Harvey, Samantha Johnson, Stacie Johnson, Fred “Paul” Woolen Jr, Joshua Woolen, James Kanady, Jared Lamaine, Caitlyn Lamaine, Jason Hubbard, and Heather Hubbard. Her great grandchildren, Avery, Andrew, Gunner, Nolan, Jude, McKenzie, Layne, Vincent, Temperance, Vaughn, Painter, Sunny, Zander, Aspen, and Jencie. She was pre-deceased by both parents, Charles Belcher and Florence Blauvelt, her stepmother Mabel K Belcher and sadly, her son John Calvin Lane Jr.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 11:00 am at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Ronald McDonald House in her name.

David Vance Barnette, 72

IMG_0005David Vance Barnette, age 72, of Taylorsville passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville. Born April 23, 1945, son of the late James Clay and Dora Clay Adams Barnette. David was an upholster for many years and retired as a truck driver. Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: James Tony and Kenneth Clay.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Martha Moose Barnette, of 42 years; a stepson: Allen Williams; two sisters: Rennie Hines (Walter) and Bernice Fox (Flake), of Taylorsville; and also many special nieces and nephews of the family that he loved dearly. David was a long time member of White Plains Baptist Church of Taylorsville.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at White Plains Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Daniels and Rev. Dennis Barnette officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm, prior to services. Memorials may be sent to the building fund at White Plains Baptist Church @ 2901 Hwy 90 E; Taylorsville, NC 28681.

Ethel PardueEthel Davidson Pardue went to her heavenly home September 12th, 2017, surrounded by loving family. Ethel, 84, was born December 6th, 1932, in Alexander County, to the late Edith Bentley Davidson and Asa Homer Davidson.

Ethel accepted Christ as a young girl and was a faithful, lifelong member of the Church of God in Taylorsville, NC, where she loved the Lord and enjoyed the church fellowship and her church family. In her early years, Ethel taught Sunday school and worked with the youth program.

On February 17th, 1948, Ethel married her late and beloved husband, David Lee Pardue. They established a business, the Downtown Shoe Shop, in Taylorsville, and worked side by side for 33 years. Later, Ethel began working with the Alexander County Food Service, where she retired.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Shelby Davidson Broyhill and Barbara Davidson Childers.

Those left to cherish her memory are her five children, Laura Baker and friend Glenna Chronister, Danny Pardue and wife Bertie, Doris Pardue-Watts and husband Tommy, Sharon Pardue-DeLemos and Stephen Pardue. Five brothers, James Davidson and wife Judy, William Davidson and wife Verlie, Homer Davidson, Jr., Charles Davidson and wife Deborah and Larry Davidson.  She is also remembered by nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 17, 2017, 1:00 pm -2:30 pm at Alexander Funeral Service.  The service will begin at 3:00 pm at Taylorsville Church of God with the Rev. Mark Albertino officiating.  Burial will follow at the Taylorsville City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Taylorsville Church of God-Building Fund at 556 Kerda Street, Taylorsville, NC  28681.
