Carolyn Sue Hinshaw Rogers, age 80, a dedicated educator who retired from teaching with Alexander County Schools and also owned and ran United Variety Store, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 1, 2024, in Alexander County. She was born on Thursday, November 18, 1943, in West Virginia to the late L.M. and Sarah Hinshaw.


Carolyn’s passion for education led her to earn a master’s degree in education, shaping the minds of many students throughout her career. She will be remembered not only for her professional dedication but also for her deep love for her family and adoration for her grandchildren. Her fondness for animals was evident to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, L.M. and Sarah Elizabeth Hinshaw, as well as her husband, Gary Rogers. Carolyn leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her surviving family and friends.

Among those who will carry Carolyn’s memory in their hearts are her daughters Caroline Bebber (Christy) and Sarah Bowman, along with her grandchildren Callie Bebber, Courtney Bebber Wicker (Bryant), and Christopher Bowman (Taylor Young). She also leaves behind her granddogs Talley Rae, Apollo, Nala, and Presley.

In addition to her immediate family, Carolyn is survived by several special friends who were blessed to have known her and share in the joy she brought to their lives. Notably mentioned are members of her beloved Breakfast Club – a testament to the strong bonds she formed throughout the years.

A family led Celebration of Life gathering honoring Carolyn Rogers will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Carolyn Rogers’ Home located at 2026 Hwy 90 E in Taylorsville, North Carolina. The family invites you to stop by anytime from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

The family would like to thank Penny Harris, Kathrine Harris, and Kelly Jimenez for their loving care of our mother and grandmother.

In honoring Carolyn’s memory, let us celebrate a life well-lived and treasure the moments shared with a woman whose kindness knew no bounds.
