Lynn Doris Dyson, who was the oldest child of the late Luther and Ruby Grant Dyson, died June 16, 2024. He was married to the late Dorcas Brookshire that passed away on February 23, 2021. Surviving are their children, Gerald and wife, Jeanette, of Statesville and Myrtle Beach, SC, Gigi D. Johnston and husband, Dudley Mizell, of Deep Gap, NC, and Robert and wife, Cynthia, of Statesville. 

Grandchildren are Christopher Johnston and wife Julianna of Jefferson, NC, Bradley Dyson of Statesville, and Chelsea D. Hancock of Vass, NC.

Johnston great-grandchildren are Slavik, Miriam, Leah, Isaac, Andrew, Judah, Providence, Jubilee, and David Johnston; Dyson great-grandchildren are Audrey, Sawyer, Jayce, and Adeline and Gabriel Hancock.

Lynn is also survived by his sister Gail Walther, and husband, Ed, of Mooresville.

Preceding Lynn in death were his parents, Luther and Ruby; granddaughter Courtney Johnston; brother JC Dyson; sisters Hope D. Cromwell and Carol D. Donovan, and son-in-law Kelvin Johnston.

Lynn was a member of Front Street Baptist Church and Loyal Soldiers Sunday School Class and Young at Heart; Telephone Pioneers; and West Iredell Ruritans. Formerly he was a member of West Iredell Lions Club for more than 40 years serving in capacities including president and treasurer and was a supporting and serving member of West Iredell Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. He worked for Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company for 33 years and worked another eight years for the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Alexander Funeral Service is serving the Dyson family. Lynn’s graveside service will be held at Dover Baptist Church, 3525 Dover Church Road, Taylorsville, NC in Alexander County, on Monday June 17, 2024, at 2:00 pm. Rev. Christopher Johnston will officiate.
