Mabel Clorene Bowles Grant, age 92, born on Sunday, March 27, 1932, in Alexander County, was a beloved soul who touched the lives of many with her kindness and devotion. She passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the Valley Nursing Center in Alexander County.

Mabel’s life was a tapestry of love and togetherness. She excelled in playing basketball during her high school years at Hiddenite High School and had a deep-seated passion for spending time with her family. Mabel was known for her nurturing spirit and her unwavering commitment to her faith.

She found joy in the simplest of things – working in her yard, completing word searches, solving jigsaw puzzles with her grandchildren, and going on family vacations to the beach and anywhere else the family wanted her to go.

Mabel’s proudest accomplishments revolved around her faith and family. She dedicated herself first to her Lord and then to her beloved family members who meant the world to her.

On August 14, 1955, she married Roger Lewis Grant, who died on August 20, 1965.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Abraham Bowles and Elsie Lackey Bowles. Mabel is also reunited with her brothers Flake Bowles, Paul Bowles (Geneva), Ray Bowles (Dorothy), Bill Bowles (Letha), Zane Bowles, and sister Mildred Johnson (Royal), brothers-in-law, Bill Wilson, Wade Gryder, and Charles Cook. She is also preceded in death by in-laws, Maurice and Minnie Grant, Bagley and Anne Hight, George and Iona Grant, Luther and Ruby Dyson, Flake and Winnie Feimster, and Ralph and Vivian Deal.

Mabel leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth cherished by those she held dear. Among the many who will deeply miss her presence are her children: Roger Christopher Grant (Vickey), Henry Kevin Grant (Donna), Curtis Lee Grant (Pam), Kenneth Lewis Grant, Kathy Dianne Grant Moyer (Greg); grandchildren: Jacob Moyer (Ying), Katie Moyer, Abigail McBride (Michael), Courtney Speights (Micah), Wesley Grant, Cody Utley (Jessica), Emily Dawson-Meeks (Bill), Mikell Dawson; great-grandchildren: Zoe, Dawson, Charles, William, Lani, Dotty, and River, due in August; sisters: Betty Bowles Wilson, Shirley Bowles Gryder, Katherine Bowles Cook; brother Hugh Bowles (Debbie); sister-in-law, Geraldine Bowles; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The memories Mabel created will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. A visitation will be held at Hiddenite Baptist Church on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The funeral service will be at Hiddenite Baptist Church at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Zach Deal will officiate.

Terry Lee Harrington, 71, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 17, 2024.

Terry was born on April 14, 1953, in Alexander County, to Crafton and Genieve Harrington. He worked at Clayton-Marcus Furniture for many years and retired from Paladin Furniture. Terry was a member of the Katie Mullis Sunday School class at Little River Baptist Church. He was a valued member at LRBC and had many close friends there.

Terry loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them and spoiling them as much as possible.

In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his brother, Barry Harrington.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 53 years, Debbie Pennell Harrington; sons, Tracy Harrington and Nathan (Shauna) Harrington; grandchildren, Abby Harrington (Lee), Bailee Harrington, Ragan Annas, Rylan Annas, Lillian Harrington, and Syler Harrington; great-grandchildren, Chase Wiseman, Cooper Harrington, Corbin Wiseman, and Tylee Carosi; brothers, Rick (Teresa) Harrington and Jimmie Harrington; sisters-in-law, Teresa (Bill) McNeely and Kim Pennell; and brother-in-law, Donny (Wendy) Pennell.

Visitation will be held at Little River Baptist Church on Thursday, June 20, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
