Beulah Mae Autrey, age 90, of Taylorsville, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday morning, October 30th, 2011. She was born on July 2nd, 1921 in Watauga County to parents Colonel and Ethel Greene Storie. Beulah was a 1940 graduate of the North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morganton. She lived her life as a generous homemaker, and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40+ years, John Ralph Autrey; her sister, Anna Lea Canipe; 2 brothers: Roma Storie and Wayne Storie; and 1 grandson: Todd Dennis Moose. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Jimmy Ray Autrey & wife Patricia of Hickory; 3 daughters: Peggy Billings & husband Stoney of Taylorsville, Lois Mitchell of Lenoir, and Bonnie Autrey of Hildebran; 3 sisters: Maggie Freeman, Charlotte Overby, and Dorothy Winkler. She leaves behind 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; in addition to a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be conducted on Wednesday, November 2nd, at Alexander Funeral Service from 5:30 – 7 P.M. A Memorial Service will follow inside the Alexander Funeral Service Chapel where Rev. Buford Pennell will officiate. Internment will follow at a later date. Darryl Thomas Porter, age 51, of Taylorsville, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, October 25th, 2011. He was born in Houston, TX on February 27th, 1960 to parents Herbert Sam and Sandra Woodall Porter. He attended Shining Light Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother. Those left to cherish his memory include his father, Sam Porter, of Houston, TX; his wife, Helen Cook Porter of the home; his daughter, Pamela Francisco of Taylorsville; 1 sister, Bambi Bailey of Orange, TX; his mother-in-law, Doris Gay of Taylorsville; and 4 grandchildren: Thomas & Helen Barrera, and Samuel and Michael Aragon – all of Taylorsville. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, October 29th, 2011 at Rocky Face Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. where Rev. Mark Dula will officiate. Betty Jean Moose Harrington, 71, of Taylorsville, peacefully entered Heaven*s gate on Tuesday, October 25, surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness. Born in Alexander County on March 22, 1940 to the late Roby Dawson and Mary Adams Moose, she was a dedicated member of White Plains Baptist Church and had retired from ER Carpenter as a Pattern Clerk. Ms. Betty was very dedicated to her church and her family and adored her grandchildren. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by six brothers: Roy, Ray, Wayne, Glenn, Clyde, and Arthur *Red* Moose. Three sisters: Christine Adams, Lois Scercy, and Dorothy Elder. Those who are left to cherish her memories are her husband Robert Harrington; one daughter Brenda Watson and husband Bradley. Two grandchildren: Jonathan Brett Watson, and Jeannie Fay Harrington. Two sisters: Elaine Patterson and husband Dale; and Irene Earp and husband Winfred *Red*. Two sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Moose and Johnsie Moose; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation for Mrs. Harrington will be held at Alexander Funeral Service Thursday evening, October 27 from 6 * 7:30 pm. The funeral service will be Friday, October 28, 2:00pm at White Plains Baptist Church where she will lie-in-state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Rev. Tony Daniels, and Rev. William Glenn Rector, age 75, of Hiddenite, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 24th, 2011. He was born in Alexander County on Christmas Day, 1935 to the late Earnest James and Beulah Icenhour Rector. Retired from Southern Screw, formerly of Statesville, he was a compassionate daddy, brother, Christian, and friend. Glenn enjoyed gardening, painting, and tending to his cows, as well as hunting and fishing. He was also an avid NASCAR fan and loved Bar-be-que. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters: Henkel Icenhour, Clifford Rector, Graydon Rector, Johnny Rector, Christine Massey, and Jo Ann Frye. Those left to cherish his memory include his 3 children: Mark Rector & wife Angie, Marty Rector & wife Bobbi-Ann, and Jada Plott & husband Joe; 4 grandchildren: Nathan Rector, Tangie Rector, Luke Rector, and Noah Rector; his brother, J.P. Rector & wife Peggy; 2 sisters: Mildred Clark and Lois Jean Lovette & husband Bob; in addition to a number of nieces and nephews. Clifton RV “Bill” Douglas, age 81, of Taylorsville, passed away on Monday, October 17th, 2011 at Valley Nursing Center. He was born on October 28th, 1929 in Alexander County to parents Benjamin Fincher and Cleo Gant Douglas. He was a member East Taylorsville Baptist Church and was well-known for his wood stoves. He was a sheet metal mechanic and was involved in the construction of the BB&T tower in Charlotte, Valley Hills Mall, and Charlotte Douglas International Airport. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother, Willis “Doug” Douglas; and 2 sisters: Gladys Fisher and Opal Clark. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Frances K. Douglas of the home; son, Steve Douglas & wife Cecilia of Taylorsville; daughter, Denise Spagnualo of Las Vegas, NV; 4 sisters: Dorothy Jean Douglas of Davidsonville, MD, Alma Friday of Mt. Holly, Geraldine Douglas of Conover, and Joyce Abbott of Taylorsville. Judy Mae Phelps, age 65, of Hickory,passed away in Frye Regional Hospital on Monday, October 17. Born January 6, 1946 to the late Ralph Durant and Ver Lee Harrison, she was a member at OakgroveBaptistChurchin GraniteFalls. Besides her parents, those preceding her in death are a sister Patsy Moretz and a brother Glen Harrison. Those left to treasure her memories are two sons: Tim Phelps and wife, Holly of Connelly Springs, and Mark Phelps of the Grace Chapel. One daughter: Paula Phelps of Conover. Four grandsons: Cody, and Luke Phelps of Connelly Springs, Matthew Phelps of Grace Chapel and George Hylton of Conover. One granddaughter: Leah Swafford on Tennessee. Three brothers: Bob Harrison and wife, Bertha of Granite Falls; Jake Harrison and wife, Gladys of Granite Falls; and Tom Harrison and wife, Wanda of Grace Chapel. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and other friends, as well as a special companion – George Inman. Annalene Pennell Austin, age 80, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October17th, 2011 at Catawba Valley Hospice. She was born on August 13th, 1931 in Caldwell County. She was the daughter of the late Grover and Estelle Poarch Pennell. She was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church and was a homemaker with a great love for her 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cloyd P. Austin; brothers: Samuel, Kelly, and Clevie Pennell; son-in-law, Rusty Sigmon; daughter, Carolyn A. Anderson; and great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Rose Austin. Those left to cherish her memory include 1 son, James C. “Jimmy” Austin of Taylorsville; daughters: Jane Drum & husband Allen of Granite Falls, Connie Sigmon of Taylorsville, and Pam Brittain & husband Paul of Bethlehem. She also leaves behind grandsons: Jeremy Baker & wife Shelly, Jason Baker, Mark Austin & wife Marissa, Shannon Austin, Stephen Anderson & wife Kelsey, Justin Austin & wife Miranda, and Xavier Brittain; granddaughters: Adrienne Hampton & husband Ben, Dana Helton & husband Zack, Lauren Austin, and Hillary Sigmon, in addition to numerous great-grandchildren.
