Brock Robert Coffey, 53, of the Bethlehem area, passed away on April 4th, 2012 at his residence. He was born on September 21st, 1958 to the late Glenn Hinkle Coffey and Sarah Ingram Coffey. He worked as a barber in Taylorsville and owned his own business. He married Trina Baum on September 1st, 1984 in Winston-Salem. He attended Sandy Ridge Baptist Church and participated in the Christian Faith Riders motorcycle ministry. Those left to cherish his memories include his wife Trina Baum Coffey, of the home; one son, Austin Coffey, of Bethlehem; one daughter, Amber Cook and husband Brandon, of Granite Falls; and one unborn grandson, Bryce Cook, of Granite Falls. A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, April 6th, 2012 at 7:00 pm at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church. Rev. Gary Jennings and Rev. Mark Robinette will be Officiating. Shirley A. Huffman, age 74, of Taylorsville, passed away on Monday, April 2nd, 2012 at Hospice of Catawba Valley. She was born on May 25th, 1937 in Catawba County. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Drum Huffman; stepfather, Paul Huffman; brother, Bud Huffman; 2 sisters: Dude Lail, and Mary Herman; and 1 great-grandchild. Those left to cherish her memory include her fiancé of 40 years, Kenneth Childers; 3 sons: Rick Huffman, Billy Huffman, and Kenneth Huffman and wife Penny; 1 daughter, Linda Starr & husband J.R. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren in addition to 2 great-grandchildren. Services will be private. Alexander Funeral & Cremation Service has been entrusted with arrangements.
Tyler Russell Teague, age 27, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 26th, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. Tyler was born on July 6th, 1984 to the late Russell (Rusty) Maynard Teague III and Teresa P. McNeely. He was a 2002 graduate of Alexander Central High School where he played football. He was a member of Little River Baptist Church. He used to play West Jr. High football. Tyler was a lifelong NC State Wolfpack fan. He enjoyed 4-wheeling and playing golf. All of Tyler’s friends and family loved him and knew him for his big, big heart and blue, blue eyes. Tyler was employed as an electrician with Jack Bigeness in Wilmington. In addition to his father, Tyler was preceded in death by his sister, Kisha Lenay White; paternal grandmother, Elizabeth (Tootsie) Reid Teague; and maternal grandfather, Donald Ned Pennell Sr. Those left to cherish his memory are his fiancé, Myra Fincannon; paternal grandfather, “Paw” Russell Maynard Teague Jr.; mother and stepfather, Teresa and Bill McNeely; sister, Lindsay McNeely; stepbrother, Kyle McNeely and wife Ashley; and nephew, Luke McNeely. Also, his maternal grandmother, Lillian H. Pennell; several uncles and aunts – including Melissa Davidson and husband Lee, Scott Teague and wife Gina, MaryBeth Woods and husband Jeff, Debbie Harrington and husband Terry, Kim Pennell, and Donny Pennell and wife Wendy; in addition to his cousins, Courtney and Laura Davidson, Mason and Abram Teague, Corey and Makayla Woods, Tracy, Nathan, Abby, and Bailee Harrington, Janie and Carter Pennell, and Alec and Alston Robinson. Visitation will be held on Friday evening March 30, 2012, from 5-8:00 pm. at Alexander Funeral Service. Funeral Services will be held on Sat. Johnny William Laxton, age 73, of Granite Falls, passed away in Hospice of Caldwell Co. in Hudson, on Monday, March 12th, 2012. He was born on June, 19th, 1938 in Caldwell county to the late Fred and Estelle Fox Laxton. He was a retired farmer. Johnny had operated Laxton’s Barber Shop with his brother Forest, in Hickory. Johnny had operated the Dudley Barber Shop in Dudley Shoals. Johnny was a member of Temple Hill Baptist Church where he had served as Chairman of Deacons, as well as on the Pulpit Committee, was a Sunday school teacher, Chair of the Cemetery Committee, and was on the Building and Grounds Committee. He had been an active member of the Dudley Shoals Ruritan. Johnny was well known as a breeder of Beagles and was active in field trials and just running the dogs with friends. He was elected to serve with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency in Caldwell county. He served in the United States Navy, of which he was very proud. In addition to his parents and his brother Forest, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Fred Laxton Jr, and one sister Sadie Laxton Mooneyham. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Grace Brown Laxton, of the home and two daughters Teresa Conley and husband Bobby; and Johnna Benfield and husband Daryl – all of Granite Falls. Johnny has four grandchildren who were the apple of his eye: Erin Conley and Justin Conley & wife Kaycee, and Jonathan and Elicha Benfield – all of Granite Falls. Johnny was expecting his first great-grandchild, Bentley Laxton Conley on May 4th. Johnny and Grace provided a home for a special nephew, Steve Wallen of Granite Falls. He has four sisters, Charlene Harrison of Mauldin, S.C. , Polly Bolick, and husband Wes of Bethlehem, Brenda Terrell and husband Larry of Granite Falls, and Jan Griffin and husband Ronnie of Germantown, NC. He has a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Temple Hill Baptist Church from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 15th, 2012 Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 16th, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Temple Hill with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state thirty minutes before the service. Rev. Darrell Hatchell , Rev. Clyde Bumgarner and the Rev. Gary W. Jennings will officiate. Pallbearers will be Dean Jenkins, Burel Marshall, Steve Laxton, Rocky Chapman, Justin Conley, and Jonathan Benfield. Military rites will be conducted by Chapter 84 Disabled American Veterans of Taylorsville, and Chapter 6 Disabled American Veterans Hudson. William George Daniels, age 68 passed away in Wake Forest University Medical Center Saturday, March 10. Born to the late James Clarence and Paralee Daniels, he had retired from Mid-Atlantic Wood Products as well as being a lifelong tobacco and beef cattle farmer, and a member of Salem Lutheran Church. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by one brother Jimmy Daniels and one sister Carolyn Jeanette Daniels. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 35 years, Wanda Meredith Daniels; two daughters – Jeanette K. Daniels, and Mandy Daniels Norton, and husband Timmy. He also leaves behind two grandchildren whom he dearly loved – Evie Annette and Ollie Rae; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. The Daniels family will be receiving friends at Alexander Funeral Service on Wednesday, March 14 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 15, 3:00 pm at Salem Lutheran Church. Rev. Ray Ohlendorf will officiate. Burial will follow in the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery. Billy Gray Willard, age 65, of Taylorsville, passed away unexpectedly at his residence after a period of illness on Friday, Mar. 9, 2012. Born July, 15, 1946, to the late Robert Lee and Dorothy L. Southard in Yadkin Co. NC, he was a carpenter and was employed by Terry O’Brian Co. in Statesville, and Daniels Woodcarving. He was preceded by two brothers, J.T and Gary Wayne Willard and one sister Alma Jane Holbrook. Billy loved Bluegrass and Gospel music and making music with his friends. He love to fish and work with anything wood. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Coffee Willard of the home. One son, Phillip Grey Liles, of Hayes NC, as well as four stepsons: Michael Bath of Slydale, La., Jeff Bath of Baltimore, Maryland, Scott Bath of Taylorsville, NC and Jimmy Bath of Holly, Minnesota, ; two stepdaughters, Michelle Mundy, of Taylorsville, and Gale Marie Stroubuch, of Huricon, Wis. Billy has 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is survived as well by one brother, Robert “Bobby” H. Willard and wife Brenda of Harmony, NC. He has a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Monday, Mar. 12, 2012 from 1-2:30 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Service with funeral services in the chapel at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Jeff Webb officiating. Pallbearers will be Ray Childress, Alan Gregory, Jeff Bath, Dwayne Salmons, Scott Bath, and Jerry Childress. Burial will follow in the Taylorsville City Cemetery. Susan Leigh Donahue, age 57, of Hiddenite passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 in Palliative Care and Hospice of Catawba County. Born on June 12, 1954 to the late Clifton Paul and Alverda Charles in Clearfield Co. Pa. she was a registered nurse with Bayada Nursing. She was of the Lutheran Faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Dale Donahue. One son Casey Lee Donahue and one brother, Jim Charles. She is survived by one son, Kelly Brain Donahue, Graterford, Pa. One daughter in law, Heather Donahue of Taylorsville. Six grandchildren, Devin, Bryce, Brianna, Patrick, Hercules and Samson Donahue. One brother, Tim Charles, two sisters, Bonnie Edwards and Betty Bowman all of Pa. She has a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Lebanon Baptist Church, from 11-12 noon on Monday, March 12, 2012 with funeral services at 12 noon. Burial will be in the Dillard Family Cemetery.
