Patricia ShewPatricia Ann Bentley Shew, age 62, of Wilkesboro, formerly of Taylorsville, passed away, Friday, March 08, 2019, in Levine-Dickson Hospice House, in Huntersville. Born, Wednesday, April 4, 1956, to the late Roy and Georgia Carr Bentley, in Wilkes County, she was a radiology technician with Wilkes Regional Hospital. She treasured her children and grand children and was blessed to see her first great grandchild. She enjoyed horseback riding. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Rispie Diane Hines and Lilley Carol Bentley.

Survivors include: two sons, Richard McCarter and wife Pamela of China Grove and Joshua McCarter, of Wilkesboro, as well as one daughter, Wendy McCarter and her companion, David Bronson, of Indian Trail. She has four grandchildren: Andrew McCarter and wife Sarah, Addison McCarter, and fiancée, Haley Baker Kourtney McGrady and fiancée, Daniel Brittingham, and Krystina McGrady. Her first great grandchild, Adeline McCarter. Two brothers survive, Roy Dean Bentley and Richard Bentley, both of Wilkesboro.  Her former spouse James Henry Shew survives. She has a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 12 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. A memorial service to celebrate her life will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial of cremains will follow at Taylorsville City Cemetery.

Kenneth Childers, 74

Kenneth ChildersKenneth Childers, age 74, of Taylorsville passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. He was born on July 12, 1944, the son of the late Oscar & Georgie Laws. During his career, Kenneth worked and owned for KC Furniture Frames and was of the Baptist faith. He had a special love for his family and loved to cook, watch Nascar, and westerns. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Shirley Ann Huffman; sister Alice; and brother Charlie.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son Kenneth Huffman and Amanda Morgan; step-son Ricky & Billy Huffman; daughter Linda Starr & husband Jr; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister Lorene Mays; brother James Matheson all of Taylorsville; along with a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. No formal funeral service is planned. Cremation will follow. Inurnment will be with the family.

Charles DavidsonCharles Ray Davidson, age 69, of Taylorsville passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born on January 1, 1950, the son of the late Asa Homer Davidson, Sr. and Edith Annie Lou Bently Davidson. During his career, Charles worked as a janitor for the county, was of the Baptist faith, and loved the outdoors. Preceded in death include his wife of 48 years Deborah Gene Davidson; and sisters Ethel Purdue, Shelby Broyhill, and Barbara Childers.

Those left to cherish his memory include son Eric Davidson & Emma; daughters Sherry Rodriguez and Debra “DD” Davidson; grandkids Anthony Fox, Heather Brackett, and Nicolas Rodriguez; great-grandkids Alexis, Riley, Bryant, & Grayson Fox, Jacobie & Covan Brackett, and Rose; and brothers Jr., James, William, and Larry Davidson.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 8, 2019 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service in the chapel. A private family burial will be planned at a later date.

Michael Keever.jpegMichael Glenn Keever, age 67, of Taylorsville passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. He was born on December 13, 1951, the son of the late Glenn Oakley and Frances Louise Sharpe Keever. During his career, he worked as a contractor for Keever Construction and Diversified Contractor’s Inc. Michael was of the Baptist faith, loved to cook, and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed working with his hands and a devoted Tar Heel fan. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his uncles Loyd & Garland Keever, Atwell Sharpe, and Hansford Marshall; aunts Annie Keever Peacock, Betty Sharpe Marshall, Eula Vannoy Sharpe, and June Bumgarner Keever; and cousins Gale & Chad Keever and James David Marshall.

Those left to cherish his memory include his very special companion of 25 years Marie Mayberry of the home; son David Michael Keever of Conover; daughter Kerri Louise Keever & wife Jenny of Conover; Marie’s son Jason Mayberry of Spruce Pine; granddaughters Mya Keever of Maiden and Kaylee Mayberry of Spruce Pine; brother Terry Keever; sister Elaine Louise Keever of Stony Point; aunts & uncles Fairey Keever Stallings & Joe Stallings of Statesville and Cleeda Keever Sloop and Ray Sloop of Wilkesboro; close cousin Gary Keever; and too many other family & friends to list. The family would like to say a special thank you to Kelly & Janice Renegar and the late Leon Moose, who are more like family than friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 4:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service in the chapel. Cremation will follow. Inurnment will be with the family. Ruth McAuleyRuth Ann Buff McAuley, age 83, of the Bethlehem Community passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. She was born on January 29, 1936 in Cleveland County, NC, the daughter of the late Johnnie and Lucy Mae Richards Buff. During her career she worked as a receptionist at Chaircraft and later had the privilege of staying home and taking care of her family. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Sue Buff Franklin and infant sister; daughter Sherre Lynn Anderson Tolbert; and son-in-law Eric Lynn Tolbert.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband William Dickey “Dick” McAuley of the home; daughters Debbie Anderson Kerley & husband Jeff of Statesville and Linda Anderson Carlton of Conover; grandsons Jay Kerley of Boone and Phillip Kerley & wife Kellie of Statesville; granddaughters Krista Kerley of Statesville and Angela Carlton of Hickory; great-grandchildren Kendall, Paxton, & Jase Kerley; nieces Brenda Richards & husband Allan of Boiling Springs Lake, Phyllis Wilson & husband Tim of Morganton, and Rosemary Huffman & husband Steve of Raleigh; and nephew Eddie Franklin of Morganton.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Alexander Funeral Service. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ruth will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am. Inurnment will be with the family.

Hazel Coleen Teague Moretz, age 89, of the Bethlehem Community passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019 at her residence. She was born on December 18, 1929, the daughter of the late Fred Stanley and Hettie Belle Fox Teague. During her career, Hazel worked for thirty-two years as a bookkeeper and secretary for Bethlehem Elementary School. She was a member at Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, was part of the ladies bible study group, and other bible studies held at the church. Hazel was an avid reader and enjoyed going to Billy Graham’s “The Cove.” She also loved to work in her flower garden and cook, especially donuts and chicken & dumplings. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years Daniel “Buster” Moretz; brothers Wayne & Lynn Teague; and daughters Joy Bentley and Peggy Kirby.

 

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Karen Walker (Gary); son Robin Moretz (Jamie); son in law; Hayden Bentley, Randy Stafford (Penny) who was like a son, all of Taylorsville; seven grandchildren Melinda B. Null (Richard), Thad Bentley (Brad), Daniel Walker (Brandi), Nathan Walker, Lydia Bumgarner (Brandon), Caroline Smith (Chris), and Caitlin Clark (Colby); sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; as well as sister in laws, brother in laws, nieces, nephews, and special caregivers.

 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 3, 2019 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Bethlehem Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Steve Dagenhart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Thad Bentley, Daniel Walker, Nathan Walker, Richard Null, Brandon Bumgarner, Chris Smith, Colby Clark, and Randy Stafford.
