melissa van cooneyMelissa Marie “Missy” Van Cooney, age 49 of Taylorsville, passed unexpectedly at her home on Monday, October 13, 2014. Missy was born August 10, 1965 in Charleston, SC to Stephanie Anne Felkel and the late John Edward Van Cooney.  She enjoyed cooking and flower gardening.  Those remaining to cherish her memory are four children:  Jonathan Charles Roark, Christina Marie Blevins, Dustin Lee Johnson, and Paul Holland Cockeran III; one grandson-Hunter Lee Parks; three sisters; Deborah Hunt, Tammy Walling, and Kathryn Beasley; two brothers:  Chad Strohecker and Jason Stephens.  She also leaves behind one aunt-Rose Johnson.  A memorial service will be held for Ms. Van Cooney on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 3:00pm at Alexander Funeral Service.

Roy “Leo” Kerley, 81

Roy Leo kerleyRoy “Leo” Kerley, age 81, of Taylorsville passed away unexpectedly at his residence on October 13, 2014. He was born May 1, 1933, in Alexander County to the late Romulus Don and Nannie Hubbard Kerley.  He was of the Baptist Faith and attended Victory Baptist Church in Taylorsville, NC. “Leo” was an avid hunter and loved his dogs.  He was an assembler in the furniture industry and was formerly employed by Broyhill of Conover, E.R. Carpenter, as well as Smile Oil.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife; Lorene Kerley, and brother; Arlie Delmas Kerley.

He is survived by sisters; Betty Tedder, and husband Buddy, Clara Russell, brother; Keith Kerley and wife Helen, all of Taylorsville, NC. Also are a number of nieces and nephews, and special friends; Jimmy Mitchell, and Lindsey Herman.

A visitation will be held for Roy “Leo” Kerley, on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Taylorsville, from 1:00pm til 2:00pm. The funeral service will be Wednesday, October, 15, 2014 at 2:00pm at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie Yount officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Kevin and Klint Kerley, Matt and Nathan Lowe, TJ Daniels, Alan Michael and Andrew Bresch, and Chase Sharpe.
